Ian Coucher, the boss of Network Rail earns more than four times the Prime Minister’s salary and was quoted in the Times on 5th June 2010 saying that he is worth every penny of his £613,00 pa. I know the prime ministerial salary comparison is done to death and the PM rakes in the cash after his term of office – but even so.

The old North London Line, now part of the London Overground, opened in 1850 and was the first local railway through North London. Trains ran at 15 minute intervals just as they do today! South London had got there 14 years earlier with the London and Greenwich Railway.
